Two positive cases were reported Monday and three additional cases were reported Tuesday.
DPS said two of the three housing units are in quarantine.
HCCC enacted its pandemic protocol to suspend all inmate movement going out of the facility as a precaution.
Health care staff and the state Department of Health initiated contact tracing and are coordinating voluntary testing for inmates and staff.
Meanwhile, the DOH on Tuesday reported 21 confirmed and two probable cases of COVID-19 statewide, including two new cases on the Big Island.
Twelve cases have been reported in both Hilo and Kailua-Kona in the past 14 days.
Hawaii County’s test positivity rate remains at 0.9%, while the statewide positivity rate is 1%.
According to the DOH, 1,473,716 vaccine doses have been administered statewide. That means 57% of the population received at least one dose and 49% completed a vaccine series.
In Hawaii County, 53%, or 106,288, of its nearly 200,000 residents received at least one dose while 41%, or 82,368, completed their vaccination.
