The Big Island reported 89 new COVID-19 cases Friday, pushing the island’s tally to 9,296 since late February 2020. Hawaii health officials reported a total of 581 new cases of COVID-19 bringing the state’s case total to 74,437. Fifteen death were also reported statewide, the highest single day total since the start of the pandemic including six on the Big Island.
The Big Island reported 89 new COVID-19 cases Friday, pushing the island’s tally to 9,296 since late February 2020. Hawaii health officials reported a total of 581 new cases of COVID-19 bringing the state’s case total to 74,437. Fifteen death were also reported statewide, the highest single day total since the start of the pandemic including six on the Big Island.
According to the DOH, 8,285 new cases have been reported in Hawaii in the past 14 days, including 1,273 on the Big Island. There has been an average of 564.1 new cases the past seven days statewide with the Big Island averaging 83.6 cases per day. Hawaii County Friday had a seven-day test positivity rate of 6.7.%, above the state’s 6.5% positivity rate.
On Friday, 45 people with COVID-19 remained hospitalized on the Big Island. All of the island’s 24 ICU beds were in use with five overflow ICU bed also in use. Thirteen of the beds occupied by COVID-positive patients. Six of those 13 COVID patients were on ventilators.
Of the 694 deaths confirmed and reported by the state to date, 526 were on Oahu, 80 were in Maui County, 74 were on the Big Island and eight on Kauai. Five deaths were among residents outside the state.
