The Vulcans simply cake-walked the last step of the way when Chaminade forfeited Saturday’s match in Hilo, giving UHH a share of the Pacific West Conference title and a berth to its NCAA Division II tournament.
“We are obviously really happy and excited to have ended the season on top of the table and have the opportunity to continue on to the NCAA tournament for the first time in program history,” coach Gene Okamura said in a school release. “This group has worked tremendously hard and has overcome a lot to be here. I’m super proud of them.”
UHH (12-3) will find out its first-round opponent, the match will be held Thursday or Friday in the West Region, during the NCAA selection show at 1 p.m. Monday.
According to a release, the Silverswords forfeited “because of their inability to field complete teams due to suspensions and injuries.”
