The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for the state, including the Big Island through Monday.
NWS has also issued a high wind warning and a blizzard warning for the summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa through Monday.
Widespread heavy rainfall, isolated thunderstorms, and damaging winds are forecast, as wet weather conditions continue for Hawaii Island through next week.
Thunder could be heard in downtown Hilo this afternoon.
Due to the high wind and blizzard warnings for the Summits of Hawaii Island, be aware that summit roads could be closed without notice.
At 2:30 p.m. today, the Maunakea Access road was reported closed by rangers above the Visitor Information Station at the 9,200-foot level.
The flash flood watch means conditions are favorable for flash flooding and the following statements are issued:
• All Residents in flood prone areas are asked to remain alert for flooding conditions and to take this time to address any flooding concerns.
• Be aware that road closures may occur without notice.
• Do not attempt to cross flowing water; turn around don’t drown.
• Be on the alert for malfunctioning traffic signals. Please treat flashing traffic lights as a four-way stop.
• Heavy rainfall and ponding can cause poor visibility and hazardous driving conditions.
• Remember, if lightning threatens your area, the safest place to be is indoors.
