Hawaiian Electric crews are continuing damage assessments and responding to power outages in Puna and West Hawaii caused by rain and wind from the “Kona low” weather system that hit the island earlier this week.
Hawaiian Electric crews are continuing damage assessments and responding to power outages in Puna and West Hawaii caused by rain and wind from the “Kona low” weather system that hit the island earlier this week.
The majority of outages involve trees that have fallen on power lines, according to Hawaiian Electric.
Affected areas include Leilani Estates, Eden Roc Estates, Nanawale, Hawaiian Beaches, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Ainaloa, Kurtistown, Fern Acres and Volcano.
Affected areas in West Hawaii include Kailua-Kona, Kaloko, Holualoa, Captain Cook and Kealia.
Some crews will need to trim or clear trees before they can begin repairs. Also on Wednesday, The American Red Cross at 8 a.m. closed its emergency shelter at the Keaau Armory.
