DOH: 66 new cases on the Big Island; 2 new deaths
The state Department of Health is reporting 1,511 new COVID cases statewide today, with 66 on the Big Island.
As an omicron-fueled COVID-19 spike continues, case numbers are increasing on each of the islands.
Today’s Big Island case numbers represent more than double the average case rate on the island over the last two weeks, and are the highest they have been in a single day since October, at the end of the delta surge.
The DOH also reports three new COVID-related deaths today, two of which were on the Big Island.
As of Monday, 66% of the Big Island’s total population completed a vaccine regimen, tied with Maui County for the lowest rate in the state.
