Big Island, state report record number of new COVID-19 infections
The state Department of Health is reporting 834 new COVID-19 cases in Hawaii County today, another record high for new coronavirus infections, shattering the previous one-day new case record of 720, set Saturday.
The seven-day average of confirmed and probable new cases is 412.
There are 5,170 active cases on the Big Island, with 41 COVID-19 patients hospitalized.
The statewide new case count is 6,252 confirmed and probable causes, also a single-day record, surpassing the previous record of 5,977 infections on Saturday.
No new virus-related fatalities were reported today so the statewide COVID-19 death toll remains 1,126.
