Ige releases funds for Lalamilo reservoir

INOUYE

State Sen. Lorraine R. Inouye, chairwoman of the Water and Land Committee, said Thursday that Gov. David Ige released $8.75 million in capital improvement project funding for the construction of a 10-million gallon water reservoir for the Lalamilo water system.

“The new reservoir will be an added benefit to the communities along the coastal areas of South Kohala, providing them with increased water reserve and fire protection,” said Inouye.

The reservoir will consist of a 36-foot-high concrete tank on property currently owned by Parker Ranch. The Hawaii County Department of Water Supply will be in charge of constructing the reservoir. Additional components will include accessory waterlines, a gate, an access road, security lighting and a fence.

Funding for the project will be split between the state and the county Department of Water Supply.
