A 23-year-old Pahoa man has been charged with second-degree robbery for allegedly mugging a 59-year-old man Wednesday night in Pahoa.
According to a police log, the victim told police he was walking on Pahoa Village Road in front of the old museum near Pahoa Village Cafe before 8 p.m. when he was kicked in the chest, causing him to fall onto his back.
The man told police his backpack containing a poncho, notebook and phone charger were taken and his alleged assailant fled the area.
The victim could not provide a description of the alleged assailant, but police searched the area and found Fred Ikaika Silva in a nearby alley.
Another individual who reportedly saw the incident identified Silva as the assailant.
A police spokeswoman said Silva, who has no prior felony convictions, was charged with the robbery, a Class B felony carrying a possible 10-year prison term, Thursday afternoon. She did not provide a bail amount.
He was also charged with four counts of contempt of court.
