Creation myths
In response to the letter from Michele Lincoln titled “Origin of life” (Tribune-Herald, March 16), I agree that creation myths should be taught in public schools.
An outline for the course could follow the table of contents in the book “The Power of Myth,” or the videos, in which Bill Moyers interviews Joseph Campbell.
Per the Cincinnati Post, “The symbols of mythology and legend are all around us, embedded in the fabric of our daily lives, and the dialogues are a welcome guide to recognizing and understanding their meanings.”
The science standard for teaching evolution in public high schools focuses on evaluating physical evidence and models to determine whether or not the theory of evolution is supported by the evidence. So, hopefully we are teaching kids how to reason and come to their own conclusions. It’s tough in this age of instant answers via cellphone!

Putin’s rampage
Ukraine has never been a part of Russia, but Vladimir Putin wants it so badly, he can taste it and will apparently stop at nothing to obtain it.
He wants to be the Tzar of Imperial Russia and needs the Black Sea for Naval shows of force and doesn’t care who has to die for him to obtain the title.
Putin wants full access to the Black Sea, just like the USSR had up until 1991. Aside from the war with the Ukrainian military, he’s destroying the infrastructure of a sovereign nation by either killing or forcing millions to evacuate, and now he is kidnapping Ukrainian children and forcing them into “reeducation camps.”
Criticizing state policy in Russia, along with protesting, will get you an easy 15 years in prison — unless you really expose something, like Russian atrocities in Chechnya, as did journalist Anna Politkovskaya. That got her a bullet to the back of the head in her apartment building.
When he was questioned, Putin tried to keep a straight face and exclaimed, “We’ll get to the bottom of it!” That was about as far as the investigation went.
Slava Ukraini!
