A 54-year-old Mountain View man faces several felony charges in connection with a nonfatal shooting that occurred early Saturday evening on Road 2 in Hawaiian Acres subdivision.
Gregory Martin Glaser is charged with second-degree assault, attempted first-degree assault, first-degree terroristic threatening and being a felon in possession of a firearm. The most severe charges, attempted first-degree assault and being a felon in possession of a firearm, are Class B felonies that carry a potential 10-year prison term.
The victim, according to the court documents filed by prosecutors, is 36-year-old Peter Leonard Keohuloa of Pepeekeo, who was treated and released at Hilo Medical Center for a shotgun wound to his upper back and shoulder blade.
Keohuloa was arrested and charged with a warrant for contempt of court, according to a police log.
Police say preliminary accounts of the incident describe it as a violent altercation involving five to six individuals, several of whom were armed with machetes. During the disturbance, Glaser allegedly discharged the shotgun, striking Keohuloa in the back.
Glaser was arrested at his home without incident Sunday afternoon.
At Glaser’s initial court appearance today, Deputy Public Defender requested that Glaser be freed on court-supervised release without cash bail. The motion drew an objection by Deputy Prosecutor Lea Cooper.
Hilo District Judge Kanani Laubach denied the motion, maintained Glaser’s bail at $70,000, and ordered him to return for a preliminary hearing on Monday.
Glaser remains in custody at Hawaii Community Correctional Center.
