KAILUA, Oahu (AP) — The search for two teens who escaped from the Hawaii Youth Correctional Facility prompted the closure of some nearby schools.
State Department of Human Services spokeswoman Kayla Rosenfeld said the two 17-year-old boys escaped from the Kailua facility Thursday morning.
The state Department of Education said Olomana School and Maunawili Elementary School were closed Friday while authorities continued searching for the teens.
Hawaii Pacific University put its Hawaii Loa campus under lockdown and canceled classes until 11 a.m.
Rosenfeld said the teens are charged with robbery. She said they ran away during a vocational education class.
