Tropical Depression 5-E, still far away in Eastern Pacific, continues movement toward Central Pacific
A new tropical depression in the Eastern Pacific is forecast to intensify significantly.
At 5 p.m. today, Tropical Depression Five-E is located about 250 miles south of Manzanillo, Mexico.
Maximum sustained winds are at 35 mph, and the storm is moving to the west-northwest at about 14 mph. This motion is expected to continue with a gradual turn to west-southwest by midweek.
Strengthening is forecast during the next several days, and the system could become a hurricane by the middle part of this week, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.
