The Fall 2023 UH-Hilo Women’s Cross Country schedule will feature a six-meet slate.
Four of those races will stay within the state with the Vulcans’ lone home event set for Sept. 30 at the Grand Naniloa Resort Banyans Golf Course.
UH-Hilo will take a trip to Bellingham, Washington for Western Washington University’s 49th Annual Bill Roe Invitational on Sept. 23 at Lake Padden Park.
The other three in-state events will take place on O’ahu hosted by each of the University of Hawai’i at Manoa (Sept. 2), Chaminade (Sept. 16) and HPU (Oct. 7).
Pacific West Conference Championships is set for Oct. 21 at Woodward Park in Fresno, California.
Longtime head coach Jaime Guerpo stepped down earlier this spring after 24 years to become Ka’u High & Pahala Elementary School’s Athletic Director.
In the interim, former assistant coach Alan Ryan (2013-19) has volunteered his time to help bring the team through the transition. A search for the next UH-Hilo head coach is currently underway and will be announced shortly.
For now, the Vulcans will have three returning runners joined by three newcomers.
Lauren Runnels returns for her sophomore season after notching three top 10 finishes a year ago. Senior Aurea Streadbeck posted personal bests for both 5K and 6K runs in 2022.
Second-year graduate student Olivia Jarvis is the other returnee and did not run in any events last season.
First-year competitors Odessa Arce (Stockbridge-Munsee Reservation, Wisconsin / Shawano Community HS), Kate Smith (Bellevue, Washington / Interlake HS) and Evalyn Sieben (Prescott, Wisconsin / Prescott HS) will round out the Vulcans roster.
