Recent Philadelphia Phillies draft pick and Hilo HS graduate Devin Saltiban will hold a meet-and-greet on Friday, Sept. 8 at the Island of Hawaii YMCA.
The event will begin at 5 p.m., and guests are encouraged to bring items to be autographed.
Saltiban, a 2023 graduate of HHS, was selected in the third round of the 2023 MLB Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies with the 98th overall pick.
His current position with the Phillies is shortstop.
Devin — also known as ‘Salti’ — was born and raised in Hilo and attended Keaukaha Elementary, Hilo Intermediate and Hilo High School.
He is the fourth son of parents Donald and Evie Saltiban. Devin has three brothers and three sisters.
Devin has played baseball since the age of four – starting with t-ball, coach pitch, PONY League and high school baseball — and has dreamed since his childhood of becoming a professional player.
He has traveled to Maui, Oahu, California, Arizona and Las Vegas for the sport.
At age 11, Devin hit his very first homerun at Walter Victor Stadium.
As a freshman at Hilo High, Devin was selected to play varsity baseball for the Vikings. In Devin’s high school junior year, he was the only player from Hawai‘i chosen to play in Area Code Baseball — an exclusive, national showcase that attracts MLB scouts.
Coach Kaha Wong (father of the MLB’s Kolten &Kean Wong) of the Big Island Wood Bat Academy played an instrumental role in Devin being drafted into the MLB.
Devin has been a member of the Island of Hawai‘i YMCA since November 2019.
The meet and greet will be held there at 300 W. Lanikaula Street in the YMCA’s multi-purpose room.
