A motorcyclist killed in a fatal traffic crash in Hilo Saturday has been identified.
Police responded to a single-vehicle collision at 12:36 a.m. on Saturday, and determined that a motorcycle traveling southbound on Kilauea crossed the centerline just before the Puainako Street intersection and crashed head-on into a utility pole.
The motorcyclist, identified as 45-year-old Michael Wilson of Mountain View, was found unresponsive at the scene and was transported by ambulance to the Hilo Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 1:40 a.m.
An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the exact cause of death, but at this time speed and inattention appear to be the primary factors in the crash.
