Police investigating social media threat at Waiakea High School
A teenage Hilo High School student was arrested Thursday for making threats against a Waiakea High School student over social media.
According to the Police Department notice, a concerned parent notified officers at 10 p.m. Wednesday that their child had received a threatening social media message from an unknown person. Following an investigation, detectives were able to trace the message to a 17-year-old boy, who was arrested at his residence Thursday afternoon and charged with second-degree terroristic threatening.
During the investigation, the Police Department maintained an elevated police presence and conducted safety sweeps at Waiakea High School.
