The Kamehameha Schools – Hawai‘i varsity football team won its ninth straight game and final home game Friday, dominating Pahoa HS 49-0 and allowing three senior defensive linemen to take snaps and score touchdowns.
The Warriors scored 42 points during the first half of the game — 21 points in each quarter.
It’s one step closer to a perfect season for KSH, which has two regular season games remaining — against Ka‘u HS, and then against Hawaii Prep.
KSH scored its first touchdown less than four minutes into the first quarter, as quarterback Adam Perry carried the ball seven yards and in on a QB sweep. Lucas Kay-Wong completed the extra-point kick, his first of seven on the evening.
The Warriors’ next touchdown was scored by Javan Feary, who made his way 40 yards upfield from behind the line of scrimmage after receiving a swing pass from Perry.
After the Warriors entered the redzone on their next drive, senior Diezel Gabriel — who normally plays on the line — began taking snaps, eventually scoring on a ten-yard carry. The Warriors would successfully run this same inside QB keeper play to allow two more of their senior linemen to score touchdowns.
The second quarter began, and the scores just kept coming.
Senior Niau Paulos — a starting defensive end — took a few snaps and scored on a nine-yard carry. A couple of minutes later, Kaydn Nauka — another senior lineman — also took a snap and ran in a touchdown.
After a swing pass from Perry to Shiloh Santos yielded 40 yards and put the Warriors back in scoring position a few minutes later, Ethan Bowden took a handoff to run in a nine-yard TD.
Up 42-0 entering the second half and on a running clock, the Warriors laid off of the gas.
The final touchdown was scored when Perry connected a pass to Andrew Boshard behind the line of scrimmage, who ran 50 yards upfield to score.
Now 8-0 in BIIF DII and 9-0 overall, the Warriors will need to win their next two outings in order to close out a perfect regular season. On Saturday (Oct. 14) KSH will travel over the volcano to Ka‘u to face the Trojans on their home field.
The following Saturday (Oct. 21) the Warriors will play their final regular season outing at HPA.
Pahoa (2-6) will remain in Puna for its final two season outings — first, against Honoka‘a at 6 p.m. on Thursday (Oct. 12), then against Kohala on Oct. 20. Both games will be played at Kea‘au HS.
