NFL week 10: preview capsules
Here are previews for Sunday’s and Monday’s NFL games.
Patriots vs. Colts
ADVERTISING
Bill Belichick’s job status is in the spotlight as the New England Patriots travel to Germany for their matchup with the Indianapolis Colts. The Patriots’ 2-7 start is the worst since Belichick’s first season in New England in 2000. It has overshadowed the latest international trip for a Patriots team that is unbeaten in its previous three regular-season games abroad.
Browns vs. Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens host the Cleveland Browns this weekend in a rivalry that’s been one-sided though the years. The Ravens are 36-13 against the Browns. Baltimore won 11 straight in one stretch and 24 of the past 30. However, the teams have split the past four matchups. Ravens coach John Harbaugh is 25-6 against the Browns.
Packers vs. Steelers
Pittsburgh quarterback Kenny Pickett is eyeing more consistency as the Steelers host Green Bay. Pickett has played well in the fourth quarter this season, one of the reasons Pittsburgh is 5-3. The second-year starter says he needs to be more consistent earlier in games so fourth-quarter heroics aren’t always necessary. The Packers are at 3-5 following a win over the Los Angeles Rams. First-year starting quarterback Jordan Love completed 12 of 13 passes in the second half, something Love says he hopes to build on as Green Bay tries to remain in the fringe of the NFC’s playoff picture.
49ers vs. Jaguars
New acquired defensive end Chase Young will make his debut with San Francisco when the 49ers try to end a three-game skid at Jacksonville. The Jaguars have won five in a row in five different stadiums and are off to their best start since 1999. Young, meanwhile, is being counted on to provide a strong pass rush opposite his former Ohio State teammate Nick Bosa. Young had five sacks in seven games for Washington before getting traded last week for a compensatory third-round draft pick in 2024.
Vikings vs. Saints
he Minnesota Vikings have won four straight games for the longest streak in the NFC. They host the New Orleans Saints this week. Both teams are 5-4. Danielle Hunter leads the NFL with 10 sacks for a revived Vikings defense. Derek Carr is coming off a season-high completion percentage for New Orleans last week against the Bears. Joshua Dobbs will make his first start at quarterback for Minnesota. He was acquired after Kirk Cousins was lost for the season and replaced the injured Jaren Hall last week against the Falcons.
Texans vs. Bengals
Two quarterbacks on a roll will take the field against each other when the Cincinnati Bengals host the Houston Texans on Sunday. C.J. Stroud set the NFL record for most yards passing by a rookie last Sunday by throwing for 470 yards and five touchdowns as the Texans beat Tampa Bay. Joe Burrow of the Bengals passed for a season-high 348 yards and two touchdowns. After starting 1-3, Cincinnati has won its past four, during which Burrow has 10 of his 12 touchdown passes. The Texans have won four of their past six after starting 0-2.
Titans vs. Buccaneers
Tampa Bay’s struggling defense faces a rookie quarterback for the second straight week, hosting Will Levis and the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. The Buccaneers allowed five touchdown passes and an NFL rookie-record 470 yards through the air to Houston’s C.J. Stroud in a 39-37 loss last week. The loss extended Tampa Bay’s longest streak since 2019. Levis is making his third start for the Titans, who have lost seven consecutive road games going back to last season.
Lions vs. Chargers
The Los Angeles Chargers host the Detroit Lions on Sunday. The Lions have not played since defeating the Las Vegas Raiders 26-14 on Oct. 30, their fifth win in the past six games. The Chargers have stabilized with two straight wins, including a 27-6 romp over the New York Jets on Monday night. Falcons vs. Cardinals
Quarterback Kyler Murray is expected to return for the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday after missing roughly 11 months with a torn ACL in his right knee. The two-time Pro Bowl selection and 2019 No. 1 overall pick is in his fifth season. The Cardinals hope his presence can help them snap a six-game losing streak. The Falcons are also trying to regain some momentum after losing five of their past seven games. Taylor Heinicke will make his second straight start at quarterback after Desmond Ridder lost the job.
Giants vs. Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys take an 11-game home winning streak into a game against the NFC East rival New York Giants. Dallas has won five in a row in the series and 12 of the past 13 meetings. Tommy DeVito is about to become the first rookie free agent to start a regular-season game at quarterback for the Giants in the common draft era.
Commanders vs. Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks will look to rebound from last week’s blowout loss when they host the Washington Commanders. Seattle was humbled 37-3 by Baltimore last week in the second-worst loss of Pete Carroll’s tenure with the Seahawks. They return home facing a critical game against the Commanders considering what is on the horizon for the Seahawks. Washington won last week at New England to remain on the fringe of the NFC playoff discussion at the midpoint of the season. QB Sam Howell continues to put up big numbers, but the question remains if the Commanders defense can continue to hold up after trading two of their top pass rushers.
Jets vs. Raiders
The New York Jets visit the Las Vegas Raiders for the Sunday night game. New York is favored by 1 1/2 points. Both teams are excellent against the pass, but have questions at quarterback. Each team also has a standout running back. Their respective offenses have struggled most of the season. Both teams are accustomed to playing in prime time. This is the fourth appearance for each club this season.
Broncos vs. Bills
The Buffalo Bills are playing in prime time for a third consecutive week in preparing to host the Denver Broncos on Monday night. Buffalo has dropped to 5-4 following a 24-18 loss to Cincinnati on Sunday night. The Broncos are rested in coming off their bye week. Denver is 3-5, but has won its past two including a 24-9 win over the Kansas City Chiefs two weeks ago.
