The Salvation Army’s Hawaiian and Pacific Islands Division has announced its Hawaii County Thanksgiving outreach services.
This year, it’s a community-driven initiative aimed at providing 1,900 meals to residents across the island. This effort aims not only to share the warmth of the season through hearty and delicious meals, but also to raise awareness about the Salvation Army’s ongoing, faithful commitment to serving Hawaii County’s islandwide community, according to a Salvation Army press release.
The Thanksgiving luncheons will be at the following locations.
Hilo
Total meals available: 600
Date: Thanksgiving Day, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Venue: Auntie Sally’s (799 Piilani St., Hilo)
Meal service type: Sit-down
Additional information: For those unable to attend, an additional grab-and-go meal service will be provided at 2:30 p.m., hosted by the Hilo Lions Club. This will take place at The Salvation Army Hilo Temple Corps parking lot located at 219 Ponahawai St.
Kailua-Kona
Total meals available: 800
Date: Thanksgiving Day
Venue: Jackie Rey’s Restaurant (75-5995 Kuakini Highway, Kailua-Kona)
Meal service type: Delivery to senior homes begins at 9 a.m.; walk-up grab-and-go begins at 11 a.m.
Additional information: These meals are being provided through the generosity and partnership of Jackie Rey’s, Papa Kona’s Restaurant and The Salvation Army Kona Corps Advisory Board Members.
Honoka‘a
Total meals available: 500
Date: Thanksgiving Day
Meal service type: Home delivery of prepared meals by noon
Additional information: These prepared meals will be delivered in Waikoloa by Waikoloa Community Church, in Waimea by Imiola Church and in Honoka‘a by The Salvation Army Honoka‘a Corps.
“As Thanksgiving approaches, the Salvation Army is
proud to stand alongside and give back to the vibrant community of Hawaii County,” Capt. Sam Le Mar, The Salvation Army’s Hawaii County coordinator and Hilo Temple Corps Officer, said in the release. “In the spirit of aloha, we extend not just plates of food. but more importantly, a sense of unity and belonging. Thanksgiving is a day to come together, to be grateful and to ensure that no one in our community feels alone.”
