State under flash flood watch, winter weather advisory issued for Big Island summits
The National Weather Service has posted a flash flood watch for the entire state of Hawaii until Thursday afternoon.
A flash flood watch means there is a possibility of flooding within the next 36 hours due to the kona low weather system.

Flood-prone roads and other low lying areas may be closed due to elevated runoff and overflowing streams. Urban areas may receive more significant flooding and property damage due to rapid runoff.
The weather services advises residents and visitors to monitor weather forecasts and to take appropriate action should a flash flood warning be issued.
In addition, the National Weather Service has posted a winter weather advisory for Big Island summits until 6 a.m. Thursday.
The kona low could cause snow accumulations up to 5 inches and gusty southwest winds.
Those driving on Maunakea or Mauna Loa should plan on slippery road conditions. Blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility at times, with periods of zero
visibility possible.
As of this morning, Maunakea Access Road is closed to the public at the Visitor Information Station at an elevation of 9,200 feet due to snowy conditions and the winter weather advisory.
Rangers will check the road and weather conditions and will reopen the road when the conditions are safe.
