Yelled at for
wearing a mask
My wife was at the county building paying property tax. We contracted COVID-19 on Feb. 1 after three years of diligently wearing masks and washing hands.
We still wear a mask when we visit a public place. Better safe than sorry, especially when we may still be positive and can pass on the virus.
Ironically, a stupid woman saw my wife wearing a mask and started yelling at her. This woman claimed that “COVID is over, and you shouldn’t wear a mask!”
How ignorant these anti-maskers are in the world. First of all, COVID is not over. The symptoms may not be severe enough to kill us, but they sure were not pleasant.
Secondly, if this woman thinks that COVID is over, I would love for her to suffer through the symptoms.
Thirdly, this country is a democracy. We are free to wear a mask if we feel like it. We would never yell at her for the clothes she is wearing!

Fix Hilo roads
and get my vote
Mayor Mitch Roth: I will vote to reelect you if you promise to fix four major roads leading up to the Waiakea Uka community.
First is Haihai Street, then West Kawailani Street, followed by Mohouli Street, and saving the best for last, the infamous Puainako Street — the main artery, especially for large commercial trucks, headed to the Kona side.
These four streets have one thing in common: All are in bad need of repaving. Potholes, cracks, washboard-like surfaces, and low metal utility covers that cause bumps just like driving over asphalt potholes.
One of the worst spots for wheel damages, especially driving downhill on West Kawailani Street, is between Kimo Place and Kilauea Avenue.
These four roads are like what the old Saddle Road was back in the day — Third World roadways. No wonder our tires wear out faster than what tire warranties promise!
Please, no temporary patchwork. Time to repave. Let’s be proactive and not reactive.
Remember, we are nearing election time!

‘Playing chicken’
regarding debates
Upon reading the hilarious commentary, “Joe Biden is playing chicken over debates with Trump,” in the Jan. 31 Tribune-Herald, I have a comment: Joe Biden is playing with a full deck, whereas Donald Trump only has a joker.
Biden has nothing to fear from debating Trump.
