Man rescued after driving off cliffs at South Point
A man was rescued early this morning from South Point after accidentally driving his Jeep off the cliffs.
The Hawaii Police Department, the Hawaii Fire Department and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to the incident at about 4 a.m.

Upon arrival at the scene, the man was approximately 100 yards off shore in the water. He was coached to a safe spot at the bottom of the cliffs, where he could exit the ocean, according to HFD.
The man remained on the shoreline out of the water but was at the bottom of a 50- to 60-foot cliff.
He was retrieved by an HFD chopper using a technical rope.
The man suffered some facial injuries, scratches and has mild hypothermia. He was treated by recuse personnel, HFD said.
In a bulletin about the incident, HFD did not publicly identify the man, his age or place of origin.
