Toshiko “Evelyn” Kondo, 90, of Hilo died May 18 at the Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born in Hilo, she was a retired waitress at the former Hukilau Restaurant and a member of Heritage Christian Fellowship. Private services held. Survived by son, Jeffrey Kondo of Honolulu; daughters, Pauline Kondo of Hilo, Maureen Kondo of Hilo; brother-in-law, Hiromasa “Muggs” (Hatsumi) Kondo of Hilo; sister-in-law, Tomoyo Kondo of Hilo; four grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, numerous nieces and nephews. Caroline Emma Werner, 88, of Hilo died April 27 at the Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. Born in Carlinville, Ill., she was a teller at JCC Credit Union, a cartographer with Paul Rosendahl, an archaeologist, docent at Wailoa Art Center, artist, amateur architect and real estate. Memorial service will be at 5:30 p.m June 6 at the Salvation Army Chapel, 219 Ponahawai St. Lutheran Church burial to be held with family in Carlinville, Ill. Survived by husband, Marlin Spike Werner of Hilo; daughters, Marlene (Henry) Kaim of Houston, Texas, and Catherine (Phillip) Boden of Farmington, N.M.; son, Leo Hart of Denver, Colo.; and several grandchildren and great-granchildren.
