HPD lieutenant graduates from FBI Academy

Hawaii Police Department Lt. Jeremy Lewis graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va., on March 15, police said.

Lewis is one of 197 law enforcement officers from 47 states, the District of Columbia, and 23 countries who graduated from this year’s program.

Internationally known for its academic excellence, the FBI National Academy is a 10-week program of professional study and physical training for U.S. and international law enforcement managers. Attendees are nominated by their agency based on demonstrated leadership qualities.

Nationally, fewer than 1% of officers have the opportunity to attend the program.

In addition to the professional training, academy attendees undergo fitness training, and graduates undergo their final fitness challenge on the “Yellow Brick Road,” a grueling 6.1-mile run through a hilly, wooded trail built by U.S. Marines.

Since 1947, HPD has nominated several officers to attend the academy, with 10 graduates currently ranging in rank from lieutenant to police chief.

“Congratulations to Lt. Lewis on successfully completing the esteemed FBI National Academy. His hard work and commitment to excellence embody the high standards we strive for … ,” said Chief Benjamin Moszkowicz, who graduated from the academy while with the Honolulu Police Department.

Lewis is a 23-year HPD veteran. He is currently a watch lieutenant in Kona Patrol.
