Learn about Hawaii Island tea cultivation from the ground up, visit with local tea growers and taste the fruits of their labor during a day-long tour of two tea farms near Volcano village. Sponsored by the Hawaii Tea Society, the tour is intended for members with no tea-growing experience and who are enthusiastic to learn more about the process.
The event will be at 10 a.m. Sunday, June 29, at the Volcano Winery tea garden with a tour led by vineyard and tea garden manager Alex Wood. He will discuss tea cultivation, plant propagation and offer tastings of the winery’s estate white and black teas, and its infusion tea wine.
The tour will break around noon so participants can have lunch on their own at a local restaurant or picnic area.
The afternoon portion of the tour at Tea Hawaii &Company will be led by Eva Lee, who owns and operates the tea estate with husband Chiu Leong. They will discuss the art of tea growing, harvesting and processing, along with cupping Hawaii-grown teas.
The tour is limited in size and open only to members of the Hawaii Tea Society, so registration is required by Sunday, June 15. To register, contact Wood by phone at 967-7772 or email: vwvineyards@hotmail.com.
Hawaii Tea Society welcomes new members. To join and be eligible to participate in the tour, visit www.hawaiiteasociety.org.
