Skeptical of jet

I don’t understand why anyone would consider taking ocean water to make jet fuel, or am I missing something (“From seawater to jet fuel,” Tribune-Herald, Sept. 24)?
It’s “jet fuel” for the military now, but what’s next?
Haven’t we hurt our natural resources enough?

‘hurtful language’
This letter is in response to the letter to the editor dated Sept. 24 written by Jim Albertini.
He calls both of our mayor candidates “ignorant.”
One of the candidates is Kanaka Maoli, a leader and respected elder with high morals in our community.
When someone uses foul, hurtful language like what he used, not only does it divide our community, it shows the writer has no morals or respect for our citizens and culture.
If he thinks the issues at Pohakuloa Training Area need to be addressed, then he should maybe run for office or change laws instead of badmouthing the very citizens that really want to do good for our ‘aina and community.

The biggest threat
to the democracy
Abraham Lincoln said: “A house divided against itself cannot stand.”
We are a divided country because both sides can find their “truth” on the internet or whatever source of their choosing. Liberals believe CNN. Conservatives believe FOX.
Who would have thought that having instant infinite information on voice command would actually not make us smarter?
But the reality is that there are so many answers on the web that many people simply give up and choose the one they want to believe. Obi Wan said, “You’re going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view.”
The old saying “don’t believe everything you read” is more valid now than ever. But “seeing is believing” is almost meaningless with the technical video wizardry we have at our disposal today.
The biggest threat to democracy is the closed mind, so practice listening graciously.
