In celebration of the 2014 Hawaii State Public Library System Children’s Summer Reading Program, “The Insect World” will be presented at six Big Island and Oahu public libraries.
Entomologist Ryan Caesar of the University of Hawaii at Manoa Department of Plant &Environmental Protection Sciences will conduct the free event and discuss insect biology and native Hawaiian insect biodiversity and conservation.
Caesar also will share information and some display specimens from the UH Insect Museum, which houses one of the largest collections of Hawaiian insects in the state and is an important research facility.
This one-hour interactive program will include a question-and-answer session and is suitable for all ages. Young children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.
The Big Island presentations are slated for 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, at Pahala Public &School Library and again at 5:30 p.m. at Kealakekua Public Library.
