During the week of Oct. 28 to Nov. 3, Hawaii Island police arrested 16 motorists for DUI. Nine of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. Two of the drivers were under the age of 21.
During the week of Oct. 28 to Nov. 3, Hawaii Island police arrested 16 motorists for DUI. Nine of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. Two of the drivers were under the age of 21.
The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona, seven; Hilo and Puna, three each; Ka‘u, North Hilo and North Kohala, one each.
So far this year, there have been 814 DUI arrests compared to 805 during the same period last year, an increase of 1.12%.
There have been 832 major crashes so far this year, compared to 711 during the same time last year, an increase of 17%.
To date, there have been 25 official traffic fatalities compared to 14 fatalities for the same time last year. That represents an increase of 78.6%.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
