Police investigating possible drowning in Kealakekua Bay
Big Island police are investigating the possible drowning death of a 29-year-old woman found in Kealakekua Bay on Sunday.
According to a Hawaii Police Department news release, Kona patrol officers were notified at 10:24 a.m. Sunday of an unidentified woman found floating face-down in Kealakekua Bay. The woman was wearing a mask, snorkel, fins and a wetsuit.
Bystanders pulled the woman onto a paddle board, where they attempted CPR. A nearby boat transported the woman to land, where people continued to attempt CPR until medics arrived. Hawaii Fire Department personnel transported her to the Kona Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The woman remains unidentified at this time pending identification and notification of next of kin.
