Members of the Hilo Woman’s Club recently hosted their annual installation luncheon at the Hilo Yacht Club, with Kathleen McGilvray, CEO of the YWCA of Hawaii Island, installing the incoming officers for fiscal year 2014-15.
The executive board includes president Beverly Heikes — who accepted the gavel for the seventh time — along with vice president Rosalei Quinting-Androyna, recording secretary Diane Czerwonka, corresponding secretary Virginia Maeda and treasurer Rose Vierra. Entertainment for the event included selections by Na Hoku Hanohano Award nominees Dennis and Christy Soares.
The HWC highlighted its scholarship program. The funds are collected through various fundraising endeavors spearheaded by club members. This year, three recipients — Chrisovolandou Gronowski, Alexus Navor and Paul Gerard Noble — each were selected to receive $1,000 to assist them with the expenses of their college education. A luncheon to honor these recipients is set for noon Tuesday at the HWC Clubhouse, 7 Lele St.
Heikes stated that the club is very motivated and committed to continuing its legacy of community service, with a focused goal of “supporting what really matters and making the changes we want to see happen in our Hilo community.”
She invites anyone interested to join the club, as membership is always open and the cost is only $25 per year. Upcoming projects to raise funds for designated scholarships and community projects include an “Oldies But Goodies celebration” in October, rummage and bake sale in November, a “Classical Concert” in December as well as a full calendar of fun events open to the community.
