Hilo rebounded from a heartbreaking loss at the Little League Major Division (11- to 12-year-olds) District Tournament at Honokaa Park on Sunday with a 15-6 win against Ka‘u to advance to the championship game.
Hilo plays North Hawaii on Monday at 10:30 a.m. If Hilo wins, a decisive game will be played 30 minutes afterward.
Saturday, North Hawaii defeated Hilo 8-7 behind an eight-run outburst in the sixth inning.
Sunday, Dayson Moses was the catalyst for Hilo, hitting a grand slam. Ocean Gabonia had a solo home run. Hilo totaled 15 hits.
Ryan Cabreira recorded a complete-game win, throwing the league-limit 85 pitches. In relief, Rustyn Bautista threw 15 pitches.
Kainalu Satkofsky, Andre Carvalho and Jeremiah Nurial-Dacalio saw time on the mound for Ka‘u. Nurial-Dacalio knocked in team-high three RBIs.
“For a team that has never had Little League before, they did real good. Real tough,” Hilo coach Earl Moses said of Ka‘u.
