regarding journalism
I agree with the letter on Jan. 9 about the totally one-sided “slanted journalism” against the president.
The media should be focused more on the good things he’s doing for America and its Constitution and the Earth and its inhabitants — great and small. Things like tariffs, which will keep the rich from having to pay taxes by having the consumer balance the budget.
It’s like a 15% sales tax. This should inspire all Americans to get off their lazy butts and become billionaires.

to cut to pay for eggs
Many are complaining about the ever-increasing price of eggs going up because of the bird flu.
I have to echo a comment made by a poster on a social media site regarding the soaring costs of eggs.
We complain about the cost of eggs these days but have no problem with purchasing high-end rims for our trucks, expensive tattoos, the latest cellphones, up-to-date video games, paying monthly premium prices for many television channels, cigarettes, vapes, quality steaks, gasoline prices, raw fish prices during the holidays, booze — well, you get the picture.
Maybe if we were to cut back on many of these nonessentials, then we’d have no problem paying for a dozen expensive eggs, yeah?

Mahalo to Honokaa
officer for assistance
I wish to utilize this forum to flash a big shaka and shout a loud mahalo to Officer Mike Sailer of the Hawaii Police Department, Honokaa field station.
I was in need of roadside assistance near Honokaa on Feb. 12 at approximately 2:20 p.m. A call was made on my behalf to the Honokaa police station, and Officer Mike Sailer was dispatched to my location.
Officer Sailer was polite, patient, courteous and professional throughout the duration of the assistance effort. The County of Hawaii is fortunate to have such a fine police officer and individual as Mike Sailer willing to serve and protect.
Just wanted to say mahalo, and I appreciated your efforts to assist me in a time of need. All the best to Officer Mike Sailer, and by extrapolation, to all the personnel of the Hawaii Police Department.
We can also assist them by being responsible citizens. Mahalo and malama pono.
