Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) golf resumed play with its second all-schools match of the season Wednesday morning at Hilo Municipal Golf Course.
After finishing second in the boys team competition last weekend at Waikoloa Village Course, Waiakea bounced back to win big, carding a collective +10. The Lady Warriors did the same thing in the girls competition, winning over Kealakehe by seven strokes (+41).
Waiakea boys superstar Jake Otani picked up where he left off last week, winning the boys individual round by three strokes. He carded an impressive 69 (-2), lapping his score of 77 from last week’s match in Waikoloa. Otani won that match as well.
Otani’s teammate, Noah Miyazono, improved his score from last week by seven strokes — tying for second overall once again after posting a 72 (+1). Kealakehe’s Noah Okazaki shared the second-place title with Miyazono after finishing ninth at Waikoloa last week. Like Miyazono, Okazaki improved his score by 12 strokes.
Kealakehe’s Ulukoa Kailiwai and Waiakea’s Skyler Miyashiro rounded out the remainder of the boys’ top five, both tying in fourth with a 73 (+2). Miyashiro jumped up the ranks considerably after placing 16th overall at Waikoloa last week (+18). Kailiwai also improved his score by six strokes.
Following a fifth-place finish in Week 1, Waiakea’s Jordyn Kawachi redeemed herself in a massive way — carding a 77 (+6) to win the girls individual field by three strokes. She also improved her score from last week by 15 strokes.
Coming in second in the girls field was Kealakehe’s Kaylee Palikiko, who shot 80 (+9). Last week, Palikiko shot a 95 to tie for seventh overall. Waiakea’s Madelyn Awaya and Hilo’s Lauren Kozohara both tied in third with an 82 (+11). Awaya made her season debut, while Kozohara improved upon her score from last week by three strokes.
Hilo’s Nalei Ramos rounded out the girls top five with an 84 (+13), improving her Week-1 score by seven strokes.
