Larry Sunao Tanimoto, 80, of Waimea died Feb. 27 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Hilo, he was the mayor of Hawaii County in 1990, also served as managing director and Parks and Recreation director, served as minority whip in the state House of Representatives, club pro at Waikoloa Beach Golf Course, member of the University of Hawaii Board of Regents, member of University of Hawaii Na Koa football booster club and UH Sports Circle of Honor, first golf scholarship athlete at UH-Manoa, where he participated in two NCAA Division II Championships and the U.S. Amateur Open, owner/operator of LST Inc., and elder of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-days Saints, Waimea 2nd Ward. Visitation 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday (Mar. 22) at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Waimea 2nd Ward, 65-1160 Kapiolani Rd. in Waimea.
