The Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) baseball and softball season continued Wednesday with matchups across the isle. Games will continue through this weekend.
HPA 14, Kohala 5
Hawaii Preparatory Academy baseball scored eight runs in the fifth and sixth inning of Wednesday’s game against Kohala in Kapa‘au, winning 14-5 to move to 4-2 on the season. The Cowboys dropped to 0-4.
Ka Makani second baseman logged five of the team’s 15 hits while also driving in a game-high six runs. His hits consisted of two triples and two doubles. Shortstop teammate Ed Lustik posted three hits, while catcher Kamea Leleiwi and first baseman Owen Smith added two each. Third baseman Wyley Ament, pitcher Lex Ni and outfielder Leon Kikukawa rounded out the rest of HPA’s base hits with one apiece.
Ni, Lustik and Asher Anderson all pitched for Ka Makani, combining for eight allowed hits and five suns while striking out six.
Pitcher Hezekiah Wilson was Kohala’s leading hitter, securing four base hits. On the mound, he allowed seven earned runs on five strikeouts.
Now winners of two straight, Ka Makani next takes the field at 3 p.m. this afternoon against Pahoa in Waimea. The Cowboys also played Honoka‘a late Thursday afternoon at home; see Saturday’s paper to read the results. Kohala also plays the Dragons on Saturday afternoon in Kapa‘au.
Pahoa 25, Ka‘u 5
Pahoa softball scored 25 runs for the second straight game after a 25-5 beatdown of Ka‘u on Wednesday at home. The outing lasted six innings.
The Lady Daggers improved to 3-1 on the season, winning their third straight. The Lady Trojans dropped to 0-3.

Pahoa will take some time off before returning to the diamond, set to face Kohala on April 14 at home. Through four games, the Lady Daggers have out-scored opponents 81-42.
Ka‘u will try to redeem itself against Kamehameha-Hawaii at 1 p.m. Saturday in Kapa‘au.
Pahoa 12, Ka‘u 3
Pahoa baseball got back on track after falling to Honoka‘a last week, routing Ka‘u 12-3 at home. The Daggers improved to 6-1, while the Trojans remained winless at 0-6.

Thus far, Pahoa has out-scored its opposition 31- 5. The Daggers will look to keep it going against HPA this afternoon on the road.
Ka‘u next plays Kohala on Wednesday in Pahala.
