Moses Yao, 82, of Hilo died April 12 at home. Born in Ghana, he was a minister, theologian, philosopher, academic and author, with degrees from the University of London, University of Wisconsin, Accra Theological Seminary, Princeton Theological Seminary, Rider College and a doctorate from the University of Toronto. He was a researcher in African studies at the University of Ghana, a counselor and teacher at Hartnell College and author of the book “Togodoo: A Pathwalk with the African Thirteen Moon Cycles.” Survived by children, Sat Nam Singh (Gurumeet Cheng) Khalsa of Reston, Va., Isis Akuwavi Mary Yao of Santa Cruz, Calif., and SunRa Ahnkherumoses Adziyaomamawu of Hilo; sister, Ella Akposoe; brother.
