The National Weather Service is tracking a tropical depression east of Hawaii.
Kevin Kodama, weather service hydrologist, said the weather system became better organized over the night, which prompted it being upgraded to a tropical depression. But the change is not expected to have a major impact on the weather forecast for the weekend, already expected to see heavy rainfall in windward areas.
“We don’t expect it to last long,” he said.
“For what we’re looking at for this weekend, as far as the rain, that hasn’t changed,” Kodama added.
As of 8 a.m., the tropical depression was located 1,300 miles east/southeast of Honolulu.
