MAKAWAO, Maui (AP) — Haleakala National Park says a cultural practitioner will teach people how to make ti leaf lei this weekend.
Piilani Lua will be offering the lessons from 1-3 p.m. Saturday in the Kipahulu District of the park.
The classes are part of a series called Hana Noeau, which features cultural demonstrations by local residents.
The park already hosted classes about coconut leaf weaving, feather lei and hula as part of the series.
The classes are funded by the Hawaii Pacific Parks Association, which is a nonprofit partner of the park.
The park says Hana Noeau means to demonstrate and honor the traditions of the Hawaiian people.
