KAPAA, Kauai (AP) — Rescuers found the body of woman thought to have been swept away while hiking on Kauai during a tropical storm warning.
The Kauai Fire Department said the body was found Saturday morning at the rocky base of the Hanakoa Stream.
The body is thought to be a missing 19-year-old hiker who was swept away while trying to cross the stream Friday. Officials say the woman and a 24-year-old man were camping the Kalalau Valley earlier in the week and went hiking Friday.
The island was under a warning because of Tropical Storm Iselle at the time. The state closed the park earlier in the week in anticipation of bad weather.
The woman’s identity has not been released. She was living on Kauai for several months.
