According to Hawaii County Civil Defense, community assistance centers have been opened today at noon in the community centers in Hawaiian Shores, Nanawale, and Leilani Estates, and in Hawaiian Paradise Park at Connection Point Church on 32nd Avenue between Paradise
According to Hawaii County Civil Defense, community assistance centers have been opened today at noon in the community centers in Hawaiian Shores, Nanawale, and Leilani Estates, and in Hawaiian Paradise Park at Connection Point Church on 32nd Avenue between Paradise and Makuu drives.
These centers will offer water, ice, and other supplies and services as they become available.
The Pahoa Pool and Community Center remain open for showers and cell phone charging. The pool is not open for swimming.
Be advised that HELCO crews are working in subdivisions and energizing lines as possible. As this work is ongoing, please treat all power lines as live. Civil Defense is also working with AT&T to restore cellular service in some areas of Puna that are not operational.
The Hawaii National Guard is in the affected area in uniform and official National Guard vehicles, along with Police and Community Emergency Response Teams to ensure public safety.
