HONOLULU — The Honolulu Police Department concluded there’s no criminal case against a sergeant investigated for domestic violence.
Chief Louis Kealoha said an administrative review continues. The case is before prosecutors who could decide there should be criminal charges.
The police probe was triggered when surveillance video surfaced earlier this month showing the sergeant punching his girlfriend at a Waipahu restaurant.
Details of the investigation emerged Tuesday at an informational hearing before state lawmakers about how the department handles domestic violence calls.
Police say responding officers should have filed a report. Kealoha says the department is looking into what officers knew when they responded to a 911 call. He says the officers weren’t called to respond to domestic violence but to an argument between a male restaurant employee and an officer.
