LIHUE, Kauai (AP) — Kauai police are warning parents about marijuana-laced Halloween candy.
Police say parents should inspect all candy as a precaution.
Chief Darryl Perry says while it’s unlikely children on Kauai will receive marijuana candy, the department thought it was necessary to issue the warning because marijuana-coated candy is gaining popularity in states where marijuana is legal.
Local law enforcement agencies remind residents it’s illegal to consume non-medicinal marijuana in Hawaii.
As a safety precaution, police urge parents to dispose of any candy that’s not its original packaging.
