This year the annual Hilo Elks free community magic show, “World of Magic,” at 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, will includee includes aerial silk dance by Elevated Artistry and Kona magician the Great Barusky. They will share the stage at downtown Hilo’s Palace Theater .
Community members are invited to come join in a mid-day event of spell-binding entertainment and treats.
Elevated Artistry is a group of strong, inspired, creative artists who enjoy the play of being “lifted.” Principal performer Alexa Kreiger will share with the audience her aerial silk skills, which is beautiful to watch and instills a sense of awe and wonder. Kreiger’s movement was inspired by the Cirque du Soleil show, where flying, hanging upside down and spinning like a child are routine.
Silks require focus, strength, agility, perseverance, and grace under pressure. It has helped Kreiger overcome her fear of heights and falling. With time, consistent focus, and devotion, she believes that we can do anything. She wants to inspire the world to do the same.
Mystery and laughter are the key words in describing the performances of Barry Gitelson and his alter ego, “The Great Barusky.” He has been entertaining as a professional magician not only on this island but also throughout the state of Hawaii for over 30 years. His stage magic, closeup magic and balloon sculptures can be seen at many private functions and community events.
Barry is a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians – Order of Merlin and the Big Island Magic Club. He was also a featured performer at other stages, including the New Zealand International Magicians Convention in Auckland, New Zealand, Texas Convention, Japan Cup, and Hong Kong International Magic Convention.
“Please come join us for this fun filled event! At the show’s end we are expecting a jolly visit from Santa, too,” said Hilo Elks coordinators. Admission is free and donations are gladly accepted.
