PEARL HARBOR (AP) — The Navy says the Pearl Harbor-based guided-missile destroyer USS O’Kane is returning home from a nine-month deployment to the Persian Gulf and western Pacific.
The Navy said the ship and its 280 sailors will arrive today.
The vessel conducted 47 maritime interdiction operations in the U.S. Fifth Fleet’s area of responsibility, which includes the Persian Gulf, Red Sea, Gulf of Oman and parts of the Indian Ocean.
Sailors joined community relations projects while visiting Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, India and Guam.
The O’Kane is named for Rear Adm. Richard O’Kane, a World War II submarine commander who received the Medal of Honor.
