Dear Dennis Chaquette (Your Views, Tribune-Herald): Your statements comparing conservatives such as George Bush and Christians to the pure evil of ISIS, Osama bin Laden, Iranian ayatollahs, Taliban members, Al-Qaida, and North Korea’s supreme leaders is as pathetic as it is misguided.
One group believes in freedom, democracy and inalienable rights bestowed by our creator; the other group believes in terror, suppression and a worldwide Islamic caliphate with one goal — the death of all Christians, if they do not convert to Islam, the annihilation of Israel, and the destruction of western civilization.
You end your piece with claims of “reality.” I’m sure you would not have the ability to recognize reality if it cuts off your head in the name of Islam.
As a conservative, I cannot abide your inflammatory ignorance without comment, although, I am sure it is wasted upon one so delusional.
Keep drinking the Kool-Aid.

Inane opposition
Dedicated Hawaiian sportsmen (On Target Inc.) have been working tirelessly to promote and develop a much-needed safe public sports shooting complex on the Big Island.
More than two decades of untold hours have been devoted to seeking range approval, despite objections and roadblocks asserted by a small hotel-oriented contingent of selfishly motivated detractors and opponents — namely, the Kohala Coast Resort Association, which has orchestrated a campaign of intentional delay.
KCRA’s apparent goal is to derail altogether this much-needed public endeavor, despite the project receiving past state agency approval and preliminary budgeting.
January travelers visiting the islands declined 0.6 percent compared to last January, making KCRA’s intransigent opposition to developing a first-class public sports shooting facility … inexplicably inexcusable.
Misguided and ill-informed personal agendas at the expense of the Big Island’s general population, including our youth, as well as a perpetuated selfish disregard for our overall economic welfare and need for tourism growth, must not be allowed to prevail. Since revenue from travelers has dropped by 2.5 percent, the state just announced a new marketing campaign to attract international travelers, which should include the considerable shooting sports community.
The time for ending certain hoteliers’ misguided dilatory and injurious tactics affecting Hawaii’s public good and economic welfare is now.
KCRA’s utterly ill-informed and patently uneducated opposition to this sporting-complex project is based upon a totally contrived and inane premise — “noise from shooting can be heard at area resorts” and purportedly will interfere with the “resort experience.”
This unfounded and farcical proposition has somehow garnered traction, allowing project approval to be unscrupulously sidetracked. Sound testing on multiple occasions has been successfully completed, debunking the notion of noise being heard at resorts located miles away from the proposed project. Far more noise occurs from crashing surf, fanning palm leaves and tourism helicopters than would ever be heard from distant gun reports.
Impediments and injurious opposition to an overdue recreational crown-jewel shooting destination must end. No rational justification exists, allowing an ill-advised lobby group to continue interfering with Hawaii’s new marketing campaign, which should include the announcement that “construction of the finest public shooting facility on the Pacific Rim has finally been given ‘green light’ approval to start immediately on the Big Island.”

Supportive community
Reading the article about the Kona bikers gathering together and revving their engines in loving memory of the lives lost in the crash brought me great happiness.
The community showed its love for the victims by taking time off to raise funds for the families. This selfless act showed the good heart of the community and how it loves and cares for everyone.
