A firm believer in helping local communities thrive, Ohana Fuels donated $4,576.35 to the Hawaii Island Workforce and Economic Development Ohana through its “Fuel Up. Do Good.” community giving program.
Contributions provided by Ohana Fuels will be used to support HIWEDO’s mission “to promote the development of a highly competent workforce by coordinating the efforts of educational institutions, labor, business, economic development organizations and the entire community in order to sustain a vibrant economy and lifestyle.”
“The mission of our giving program is to help meet the needs of the communities we serve by supporting nonprofit organizations that improve overall quality of life,” said Kimo Haynes, president of Hawaii Petroleum Inc, parent company of Ohana Fuels. “Ohana Fuels proudly sponsors programs that enhance the vitality of our neighborhoods, celebrate our community’s success and support local charities.”
HIWEDO, a private nonprofit agency established in 2005, offers programs primarily directed toward at-risk youth, unemployed and underemployed individuals, the underserved population, and small businesses.
The latest contribution will support the Huiana Student Internship Program. Huiana is a collaborative effort between HIWEDO, the state Department of Education and local businesses, focusing on Hawaii Island youth as the labor force of the future with the strategy of developing the workplace skills of our high school students.
