Wailoa Center’s Main Gallery will host an exhibit June 5-25 titled “Category,” presented by Etc. Inc.
Etc. Inc. is a group of nine artists, including Lonny Tomono, Tobias Brill, Kevin Diminyatz, Leslie Samson-Tabakin, Rann Sergeant, Kawa Harijan, Jerilee Negrillo, Liv Johnson and Jon Goebel.
Hailing from Hilo, Etc. Inc. forms a collective that shares ideas, inspiration and methods of drawing, painting and printmaking. The artists strive to inform, challenge and encourage each other to create work that embodies a personal view of contemporary life in Hawaii.
The show will include monoprints, etchings, relief prints, screen prints, watercolors, paintings, mixed-media works and more.
A reception for the artists is scheduled for 5-7 p.m. June 5. Artists will be present to meet the public, and guest artist Kandi Everett, well known for her tattoo art and prints, will have a gallery talk about her work and art on display.
Light refreshments will be served and musical entertainment provided by Kawa Harijan.
Everett received her bachelor of fine arts degree in 1969 from the University of Hawaii and has been a member of the Honolulu Printmakers for more than 10 years and a tattoo artist for more than 35 years.
Everett worked at the famed China Sea Tattoo in Honolulu’s Chinatown from 1977-94. She is well-represented in books and articles about tattooing, and her work has been shown in museums and galleries throughout the United States and Europe.
Wailoa Center is free and open to the public 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The center is closed Saturday, Sunday and state holidays.
