The Big Island’s first certified Zentangle teachers, Lois and Earl Stokes, bring this captivating art form to Volcano Art Center from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. July 18. This basics class will give participants a solid foundation in the philosophy, metaphors and methods of the Zentangle process.
If you can draw a dot, a line and a circle, then you can create Zentangle art. Zentangle is an easy-to-learn, relaxing and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns.
At first glance, it looks like you are doodling. But take this to another level and find the drawing of repetitive patterns brings you to a state of relaxed focus that some call meditation. Zentangle removes blocks and opens doors to inspiration.
That’s why so many artists find this process appealing and it’s become the No. 5 design trend for 2015.
Following the Zentangle motto, “Anything is possible one stroke at a time,” the Stokeses learned more than 142 tangle patterns from Maria Thomas and Rick Roberts, the founders of the Zentangle process. They now share the deconstruction of these tangles with their students.
The class will be conducted at VAC’s Niaulani Campus in Volcano. Cost of the class is $35 or $30 for VAC members plus a $10 supply fee.
