Alumni Football USA will hold the following four games involving Big Island high schools.
• Hilo vs. Waiakea, 7:30 p.m. Jan. 4 at Wong Stadium
• Konawaena at Kealakehe, 7 p.m. Jan. 5. It was incorrectly reported earlier that the game would be at Konawaena.
• Honokaa vs. Kohala, TBA
• Keaau vs. Hawaii Prep, TBA
There are 40 spots available per team at a cost of $100. Alumni Football USA organizes and coordinates the games, and rental of professional helmet, pads and equipment, game-day EMTs, officials, announcers, field-liability insurance, DVD and commemorative T-shirts are covered by the entry fee. Some of the money raised will go back to the high schools.

Brantley Center
benefit runs Saturday
The Brantley Center will host its inaugural 5-kilometer, half-marathon and 30K Waipio Challenge at 6:30 a.m. Saturday in Honokaa.
The runs are a benefit for the Brantley Center, which has provided “services to the disabled community of North Hilo, Hamakua and Kohala for over 40 years,” according to a release.

apparel fundraiser
The Hilo Athletic Committee in partnership with the Hilo High athletic department will hold its fall “Steakfry and Viking Apparel Fundraiser” from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 28 at the school in support of the school’s athletic department.
Kiawe-grilled steaks will be on sale for $8 per plate, along with Viking apparel, ranging from shirts and shorts to caps and old uniforms.

Hilo Muni golf feats
Sus Shigemasa, age 82, shot a gross 79 while playing with the Duffer’s Golf Club on Oct. 13 at Hilo Municipal Golf Course.
Kenji Kawai, Kyle Fujimoto and Masa Uchida witnessed Shigemasa’s outstanding round.

Halloween hoops on tap
The Hawaii Isle Police Activities League (HI-PAL) will host the Halloween Havoc 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament Oct. 26-28 at Kawananakoa Gym in Keaukaha.
Team entries are being accepted in the following age-group divisions: 5-6; 7-8; 9-10; 11-12; 13-14; high school boys; girls 10 and under; girls 12 and under; girls 14 and under; and high school girls. The age cutoff date is Dec. 31.
HI-PAL plans to have the teams with players ages 13 and older play their games on Friday night, Oct. 26. The teams with players ages 5-12 will play on Saturday, Oct. 27, and Sunday, Oct. 28.
Entry deadline is Friday, Oct. 19. Each team will be required to complete a registration packet, which must be submitted by that deadline.
In addition to the tournament, police will provide information on how to make Halloween activities safer as well as a child car seat safety checkpoint on Saturday, Oct. 27.
